The passion of Garth Stroebel, renowned as an innovator in the field of culinary art, and Paul Hartmann has prompted the opening of the South African Culinary Academy, a school of culinary art that will offer customised training for school-leavers and aspirant chefs from January 2004.
The school will provide tomorrow’s chefs with world-class training to meet the skills shortage and dire need for qualified chefs in the hospitality industry.
The campus is conveniently located in Observatory in Cape Town and will offer an upmarket environment and training facilities for 45 students per year.
The school will provide tomorrow’s chefs with world-class training to meet industry’s urgent call for qualified chefs, which has been brought about by the unprecedented boom in tourism, and will equip graduates with cutting-edge skills to build a career in this competitive and challenging field.
School Vision:
The South African Culinary Academy offers specialised training by chefs for chefs, and not just any chefs – two of the country’s most well respected and highly regarded chefs, who have been directly involved in the industry for over 50 years collectively and whose passion for training is renowned across the industry.
Dedicated to providing aspirant chefs with the real skills required to build a career in the challenging world of cuisine, the SA Culinary Academy offers progressive, relevant techniques built on a sound foundation of classic principles.
Admission Requirements:
Must be 18 years or older and have successfully completed all secondary schooling.
Must also be serious about wanting to become a professional chef as the course is "practical" intensive.

Accreditation:
Accredited by South African THETA authority & City & Guilds.
Degrees/Certificates:
Diploma & Advanced Diploma under City & Guilds. NQ5 under SA National THETA qualifications
Facilities:
Dedicated Pastry Department, Hot Kitchen with 16 independent workstations, 2 classrooms, photographic studio, full library & IT facilities with internet access, dining facilities for 48 persons. Secure patrolled precinct with gymnasium, restaurant, cafe and ATM's.
Schedule and Fees:
R 60 000.00 for one year full-time course that includes all food product and other consumables, basic knife set, notes, examination fees and registration fees.
Classes commence late January and end mid-December. Day begins at 8am and concludes at 5pm Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend work as required.
